Xiamen is the core port of the southeast international shipping centre and a principal gateway for cross-strait trade.

Xiamen handled 12.2547 million TEU in 2024, seventh in China and fourteenth globally. Foreign-trade containers make up a notably high proportion, spanning electronics, machinery and textiles.
Infrastructure and berths
The Haicang, Dongdu and Zhaoyin Houshi areas provide large deep-water container berths able to work ultra-large vessels. Haicang is the main foreign-trade area with cold-chain and vehicle facilities, reinforced by bonded and free-trade zone status.
