Overview

Lianyungang is the sea outlet for central and western China and the eastern bridgehead of the New Eurasian Land Bridge.

Export role and throughput

Cargo throughput reached a record 346 million tonnes in 2024 with container volume around 6 million TEU. The port runs a high number of China-Europe block trains and is a land-sea node on the Belt and Road.

Infrastructure and berths

The Lianyun deep-water area holds container, dry bulk, ro-ro and hazardous-cargo berths. Distinctive assets include the China-Kazakhstan logistics base and the SCO logistics park, and a 300,000-tonne channel is under continuing development.

Location and inland connectivity

On the northern Jiangsu coast at the terminus of the Longhai railway and the eastern start of the New Eurasian Land Bridge, it reaches Xuzhou, the Huaihai economic zone and inland cities including Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Lanzhou and Urumqi.

Surrounding industry clusters

Serves chemical, agricultural product, machinery and new-material clusters in northern Jiangsu and inland provinces, with petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry at the port. Hosts the Lianyungang area of the Jiangsu free-trade zone.

What this means for used car buyers

Most useful when the buyer wants Central Asian rail delivery rather than ocean freight — a well-established routing for used vehicles to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Ocean sailing choice is thinner than at Qingdao or Shanghai.
