Key figures (2024)
Overview
Yangpu is the core hub of the Hainan free trade port and an international shipping node on the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, located in the Yangpu development zone at Danzhou.
Export role and throughput
Container throughput passed 2 million TEU for the first time in 2024 with cargo throughput near 100 million tonnes. Yangpu is Hainan's most important international shipping hub, where the western corridor meets free trade port development, and both transhipment and ASEAN services are growing quickly.
Infrastructure and berths
The port has deep-water berths able to work large container and bulk vessels, including the Xiaochantan container terminal and petrochemical berths, with rail and road connections and overlapping bonded and free trade port policies.
Location and inland connectivity
In the northwest of Hainan island linking the Beibu Gulf with South China Sea trunk routes, Yangpu is where the New Western Land-Sea Corridor meets the free trade port, reaching Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou and facing ASEAN.
Surrounding industry clusters
Serves Yangpu petrochemicals (Hainan Refining), oil and gas storage, new materials, food processing and shipping logistics, forming Hainan's largest port-side industrial cluster. Operates the Yangpu bonded port area and the "Port of Yangpu" ship registry.
Growing as an ASEAN transhipment point, but not a practical loading port for mainland-sourced used vehicles.
Figures are for 2024 unless noted, compiled from China's Ministry of Transport, provincial and municipal authorities, and port group disclosures. Values marked approx. are industry estimates.
