Key figures (2024)
Overview
Beibu Gulf Port is the international gateway of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and China's main hub facing ASEAN, combining the Qinzhou, Beihai and Fangchenggang areas.
Export role and throughput
Container throughput passed 9 million TEU in 2024 and continues to grow quickly, with cargo throughput around 150 million tonnes. The port is the key sea outlet for trade between southwest China and ASEAN.
Infrastructure and berths
Qinzhou (including Dalanping) is the container core, Fangchenggang handles dry bulk and Beihai covers passenger ro-ro and port-side industry. Large container berths and deep channels support 80 container services.
Location and inland connectivity
Located on the Guangxi coast facing ASEAN and close to the Malacca Strait routes, the port anchors rail-sea intermodal traffic on the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, reaching Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Chongqing.
Surrounding industry clusters
Serves southwest China's steel, aluminium, energy and petrochemical sectors plus ASEAN trade, with Guangxi port-side grain, oil, chemical and new-energy materials clusters. The Qinzhou area of the Guangxi free-trade zone pilots RCEP measures.
The shortest route to ASEAN markets and worth comparing against Guangzhou or Shenzhen for shipments to Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and Indonesia. Note that several of these are right-hand-drive markets, which restricts which Chinese units can be sold there.
Figures are for 2024 unless noted, compiled from China's Ministry of Transport, provincial and municipal authorities, and port group disclosures. Values marked approx. are industry estimates.
