Overview

Huangshi is a 100-million-tonne port on the middle Yangtze, the eastern gateway of Hubei province and part of the Wuhan middle-Yangtze shipping centre.

Export role and throughput

Cargo throughput passed 100 million tonnes for the first time in 2024, joining the ranks of the middle Yangtze's largest ports, with container volume estimated around 250,000 TEU. Traffic is mainly break-bulk (steel, ore, building materials, grain) with foreign trade in steel, electronic materials and agricultural products.

Infrastructure and berths

The Huangshi and Qipanzhou areas lie along the river with large bulk, container and general berths. Qipanzhou is the container core with rail access, and the port pioneered a combined "river-sea direct plus Yangtze block train" model serving Sichuan and Chongqing.

Location and inland connectivity

On the south bank of the middle Yangtze on the eastern flank of the Wuhan city cluster, the waterway connects Wuhan, Jiujiang, Nanjing and Shanghai while Yangtze block trains reach Sichuan and Chongqing, serving Huangshi, Ezhou, Huanggang and the Wuhan cluster.

Surrounding industry clusters

Serves Huangshi steel (Daye Special Steel), non-ferrous metals, building materials, electronics and new materials, with eastern Hubei port-side industry. Hosts the Qipanzhou comprehensive bonded zone.

What this means for WPC buyers

A small river port; any WPC cargo would transfer at Shanghai or Ningbo. Included for completeness rather than as a practical export route.
