Key figures (2024)
Overview
Fuzhou is the core port of the west-coast Taiwan Strait economic zone and one of Fujian's two container trunk ports.
Export role and throughput
The Jiangyin area passed 2.4518 million TEU in 2024, up 7.22% to a record, with port cargo throughput around 260 million tonnes. Fuzhou has dense cross-strait and Maritime Silk Road services and is the main export channel for northeastern Fujian.
Infrastructure and berths
The port follows a "one river, two wings" pattern with containers concentrated at Jiangyin, which can work large container vessels. Luoyuan Bay and Kemen handle dry bulk while Songxia covers grain and ro-ro, supported by deep channels and bonded logistics.
Location and inland connectivity
At the mouth of the Min River on Fujian's central-northern coast, the port has dense direct sailings to Taiwan and reaches Fuzhou, northeastern Fujian and Jiangxi via the Min River and rail.
Surrounding industry clusters
Serves electronics and information, textiles and chemical fibre, automotive, stainless steel and glass clusters, with heavy and advanced manufacturing at the port. Hosts the Jiangyin area of the Fuzhou free-trade zone.
A reasonable alternative to Xiamen for northern Fujian suppliers, though Xiamen has roughly four times the container volume and correspondingly more sailings.
Figures are for 2024 unless noted, compiled from China's Ministry of Transport, provincial and municipal authorities, and port group disclosures. Values marked approx. are industry estimates.
