Overview

Yingkou is northeast China's domestic-trade container hub and a break-bulk transfer centre, operated within Liaoning Port Group.

Export role and throughput

One of the largest ports in the northeast by tonnage, Yingkou handled roughly 160 million tonnes and about 5 million TEU in 2024. Domestic-trade containers make up a high share, so the port functions mainly as a northern coastal transfer point and the region's sea outlet.

Infrastructure and berths

Centred on the Bayuquan area, with large break-bulk, container, ore and coal berths able to work big bulk carriers. Rail runs directly into the port, and there are extensive yards plus dedicated grain and steel facilities.

Location and inland connectivity

On the northwest of the Liaodong peninsula on the eastern shore of Bohai Bay, the Harbin-Dalian railway reaches into the port and links the major cities of the three northeastern provinces, plus Inner Mongolia's eastern districts.

Surrounding industry clusters

Serves Liaoning steel (Angang, Bengang), petrochemicals, equipment manufacturing and agricultural processing, with heavy chemical and grain processing at the port. Hosts the Yingkou area of the Liaoning free-trade zone and a comprehensive bonded zone.

What this means for WPC buyers

Suited to domestic distribution and Northeast Asian trade. For WPC exports to Europe or North America, Dalian generally offers better foreign-trade sailings.

Figures are for 2024 unless noted, compiled from China's Ministry of Transport, provincial and municipal authorities, and port group disclosures. Values marked approx. are industry estimates.
